THE CLOSURE YEAR | ADRIAN LAMBERT

22-25 FEB 2024 | 10AM - 5PM | VICTORIA HALL | FREE

This poignant project documents the final year of Glossopdale School before it was closed in 2020. Photographer, and former pupil, Adrian Lambert describes how he felt compelled to make the project: “Glossop Comprehensive as it was called when I was a student had a big impact on me. I enjoyed my time there. It was a bit grubby but it was reliable. Having heard that the site was to close after the 2017/18 school year I felt compelled to document it prior to its reincarnation as a newly built school. A chaotic process of upheaval unfolded against a backdrop of unchanged surfaces, familiar to several generations of occupants. The work weaves a dichotomy of transience amidst consistency. It also celebrates our shared environments, in particular the mundane spaces we occupy and the impact that even these have on us. I presented this work in OPPA, a small studio/gallery in Rotterdam in 2018. Subsequently theproject was selected for display as part of the Rotterdam Photo festival in 2020 where I was asked to speak about it at the Nederlands Fotomuseum in 2020. I’m happy to be able to share it here in Glossop”
